Introduction

Would you like to become an expert educator in a subject areaÌýandÌýspecial education? In the Dual Preliminary Single Subject/Education Specialist Credential in Mild/Moderate and Extensive Support Needs program, you earn three credentials simultaneously:

• Preliminary Single Subject Credential
• Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Mild/Moderate Support Needs
• Preliminary Education Specialist Credential in Extensive Support Needs

Candidates earning these credentials become authorized to teach any subject area offered in our Single Subject program, while also being authorized to conduct assessments and provide instruction and special education services to learners across federal disability categories and with extensive to mild support needs from kindergarten through age 22.

Features

• Two-year program, streamlined to have fewer units than required to earn these credentials separately
• Developmentally sequenced program of methods, foundational, and field experience courses
• Highly qualified faculty with strong practical knowledge of students and schools
• Emphasis on working with diverse students in urban schools
• Field experiences in both general and special-education settings
• Culminates with the state-required Teacher Performance Assessment, the edTPA.
