Self-care in 2025: Goodbye and Hello

January 6, 2025

Dear College of Education Community,

Happy New Year!  As we say goodbye to the past year, we can reflect on lessons learned, changes encountered, and times full of joy, belongingness, and community. We can remember not just the highs but also the lows. All the experiences of the past year have impacted who we are, who we are becoming, and how we care for ourselves and the world around us.

The new year provides opportunities to hold onto our dreams, overcome challenges, and commit to new intentions. According to Psychology Today, “the idea of using the New Year to improve oneself is supported by psychological research. The start of a new year can be a time for self-reflection and envisioning the future, which can motivate people to take action on their goals. This is known as the ‘fresh start effect’.”

Here’s to taking an active role in the unfolding journey of 2025. May the new year be filled with hope, strength, wellbeing, and a renewed commitment to equity and inclusion for us all.

Hello 2025! Bring it on!

Warmly,

Shari
