Candidates must be bilingual in Spanish and pursuing a bilingual authorization as part of their credential and they will conduct their full year of student teaching at MLC under the mentorship of an experienced bilingual educator. Candidates will receive a stipend of $30,000 for the school year.</p><p>MLC implements a Dual Immersion Program in English and Spanish and prioritizes social justice, social emotional learning, biliteracy, and multiculturalism. The school has been serving the community since 2001 and has engaged many ¼ªÏé·» students as residents, student teachers, and paraprofessional staff over the years.</p><p>As part of the Residency program, candidates will have the opportunity to attend professional development workshops and receive coaching and support from passionate educators, while getting to know the MLC community. He holds a B.A. in Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Berkeley, a teaching credential in History/Social Science from ¼ªÏé·», and a Ph.D. in Education from Claremont Graduate University. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Flores taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District and subsequently managed a Youth and Parent Leadership program, where he collaborated closely with students and educators on Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) initiatives. Notably, he co-organized the founding of the Paula Crisostomo Dream Resource Center at Abraham Lincoln High School, which offers essential resources and services to undocumented students and mixed-status families. Dr. Flores' research centers on fostering critical race consciousness, advancing YPAR methodologies, and promoting K-12 ethnic studies. The funding to support this project is provided by the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC) FY 24 Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grant which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act 2024 to assist victims of crime.
