MataBites

What is MataBites?
A collaboration between the Basic Needs Office and the Institute for Sustainability. MataBites is a push notification system that delivers messages to participating 鷻 community members via the 鷻 app, informing them of when free food becomes available on campus.
MataBites aims to alleviate food insecurity and limit food waste at 鷻. Our mission is to strengthen the 鷻 community by feeding hungry people on campus, diverting edible food away from landfills, and promoting student success!
鷻 community members can opt into the MataBites message channel via the 鷻 app. Notifications must be enabled in phone settings.
Once opted-in, 鷻 community members will receive alerts informing them of when/where they can get food for free on campus (on a first-come, first-serve basis).
- Download the official 鷻 app and log in using your 鷻 account.
- Go to “Messages” tab.
- Select “Opt-In Channels.”
- Select the “+” next to “MataBites.”
- Allow notifications for the 鷻 app in your phone settings. (Note: You will not receive Matabites alerts if your notifications are off.)
You are all set!
MataBites is strategically identifying potential Campus Food Partners. Only 鷻 faculty or staff members can become Campus Food Partners at this time.
If you are involved with a 鷻 department that hosts events with food and would like more information on how to become a Campus Food Partner, please contact us at: matabites@csun.edu.
