If you are interested in promoting health on campus, gaining practical experience in the health care field or helping your fellow Matadors, The Klotz Student Health Center has many opportunities to get involved. There’s even the possibility of earning class credit. Below, you’ll find a number of organizations to join and opportunities to participate in.

Spring 2025
CASE (Clinical Access Shadowing Experience) provides an opportunity for students interested in pursuing careers in health and medical fields to observe, shadow, and participate in clinic services at the Klotz Student Health Center.
CASE allows participants to work with health care providers to develop communication and technical skills vital to career development. The skills include patient intake interviews, monitoring of vital signs, escorting, and an introduction to the internal function of a healthcare facility.
The program requires a 20-hour commitment for the semester and completion of all required forms. One mandatory orientation/skills training session is required for all students accepted into the program. Participants must choose one training (see below) to be held on Tuesday (01/28/2025) OR Wednesday (01/29/2025). Also, proof of current TB clearance is required BEFORE the start of clinical hours. Immunizations for Covid-19 and Influenza are strongly encouraged. Details for compliance will be given upon acceptance to the program.
Applications for Spring Semester will be closed when available slots are full. Applicants will be notified by ¼ªÏé·» email (only) when all the slots have been filled. Orientation information will be sent a few weeks prior to 1/28/25. Thank you for your interest in CASE!

The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) serves in an advisory capacity to the director of the Klotz Student Health Center to help identify student needs as well as develop, implement and refine services to meet those needs. SHAC is the student voice of the Klotz Student Health Center. SHAC acts as an advisory board to the health center staff while communicating the opinions and needs of the ¼ªÏé·» campus.
SHAC member responsibilities include:
- Assessing health center programs to ensure student needs are met
- Recommending policy changes to better meet student needs
- Attending regular monthly meetings during the academic year
- Participating in Klotz SHC outreach and health promotion activities
- Connecting with ¼ªÏé·» students to gather feedback on health and wellness needs of the campus
Membership in SHAC allows you to:
- Develop leadership and communication skills
- Help to improve the quality of student life through better health
- Network with other campus leaders
SHAC Membership Requirements:
- Currently enrolled ¼ªÏé·» student.
- Ability to attend monthly in-person meetings.
- Ability to participate in one to two outreach events per semester.
- Interested in supporting the needs of ¼ªÏé·» student health.
All majors and class levels are welcome to serve on the committee.

Matadors4Wellness Peer Health Education at the Klotz Student Health Center provides valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth. Peer health educators make presentations in classes and participate in campus-wide outreach activities. By participating in the program, you will develop expertise about the specific health needs of ¼ªÏé·» students such as reproductive health and substance use issues, as well as learn skills in public speaking, program development and more.
The Matadors4Wellness Peer Health Educators are ¼ªÏé·» students who are committed to the health and wellness of the campus community. The program strives to promote experiences characterized by education that enhances understanding of risk-reduction, behavior change and well-being. Peer Educators are trained and charged to effectively engage and educate the ¼ªÏé·» campus community through workshops, presentations, and campus outreach.

- Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs

Training
Matadors4Wellness peer health educators participate in a mandatory, 40-hour summer training to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills to lead workshops and participate in outreach events. In addition to college health topics, peer educators also receive certifications in the following areas:
Certified Peer Educator Training (CPE)
Matadors4Wellness Peer Educators are through the NASPA BACCHUS Initiative. The CPE training program is a 12-hour curriculum culminating in a certifying examination requiring an 80% score for certification. CPE training ensures that students develop the necessary knowledge and skills needed to be an effective peer educator.

Roles and Responsibilities
- Conducting virtual health & wellness workshops for the ¼ªÏé·» community
- Creating health education materials (e.g. flyers, presentations)
- Developing content for social media (e.g. posts, short videos)
- Assisting with evaluation and data analysis (e.g. SPSS)
- Providing input and support on various projects at the Klotz Student Health Center
