December 19, 2022
Good evening, Principal Investigators and Research Administrators:
The fall 2022 semester is almost over. Below are some reminders before we enjoy our holiday break!
New hires, including hiring new student employees
If you plan to plan to hire new employees in your sponsored project, please remember to complete the new hire sign in process prior to allowing them to work on your project.
Federal regulations require all employers to verify that individuals are authorized to work in the United States, which includes ensuring that an individual has social security card and number. The Form I-9 (Employment Eligibility Verification) must be completed for every new employee (including citizens and noncitizen nationals of the United States) BEFORE the first day of work. Furthermore, failure to comply with these requirements may result in civil penalties incurred by The University Corporation and CSU Northridge.
Please visit the PI FAQ page regarding personnel and payroll if you have any questions. Please contact tuchr@csun.edu, or your Post-award liaison if you have specific questions not addressed in the FAQ page.
Additional Pay – Fall 2022
All fall 2022 pre-authorization requests must be completed by December 23, 2022. After this date, you will not be able to enter any pre-authorization requests for fall 2022 semester. Please note that the campus, including TUC, is closed on December 23, 2022.
The updated TUC additional pay guide is attached.

* AY Faculty can submit pre-authorization to work up to 12 days (100%) total on federal projects plus 3 days (25%) total on non-federal projects.
* 12-month faculty can submit pre-authorization to work up to 3 days (25%).
Please feel free to contact your Post-award liaison if you have any questions.
Detail Trial Balance (DTB) reports
We are currently having some issues with our automatic DTB report delivery. Recipients are still receiving FY 21/22 (last fiscal year’s report) and some FY 22/23 reports that we have already set up have stopped sending. We are working on fixing the issue before the holiday break. Please ensure that you are looking at the current DTB report. At the top left corner of the report, the current report should say “Fiscal Year: 2022”.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday break!
Sincerely,
Grace Slavik, Director, Sponsored Programs Administration
