Second Bachelor's Admissions

Beginning fall 2025, you can apply for admission to California State University, Northridge as a second Bachelor's Degree candidate in one of the following approved majors:*

  • Deaf Studies
  • Health Administration
  • Public Health
  • Radiologic Sciences

How to Apply as a Second Bachelor's Student

If you are a post-baccalaureate student who holds a recognized bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, you may pursue a program leading to a second bachelor's degree in the following majors that are approved for the fall 2025 admission cycle:

  • Deaf Studies
  • Health Administration
  • Public Health
  • Radiologic Sciences

Please note: The major may not be the same as your previously awarded degree.

We encourage you to consult with a department advisor to determine whether a second bachelor's degree or a graduate program better meets your needs.

Submit your Cal State Apply application* during the following filing periods:

  • For fall admission, applications are accepted fromÌýOct. 1ÌýtoÌýJan. 31.
  • For spring admission, applications are accepted fromÌýAug. 1ÌýtoÌýSept. 30.

You'll also want to make sure you apply forÌýfinancial aid and scholarshipsÌýin a timely manner. Also note the transcript deadlines on this page.

* Important: If you are returning to ¼ªÏé·» to complete a second bachelor’s degree that you have already started at ¼ªÏé·», you do not need to reapply. Visit Returning Undergraduate Students for application instructions.

A second bachelor's degree applicant is admitted to ¼ªÏé·» as a graduate student.ÌýTherefore, you are eligible to apply for a second bachelor’s degree if you meet all of the following admission requirements:

  1. Have a four-year baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution; and
  2. Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended; and
  3. Have satisfied one of the following conditions:
    • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all undergraduate units, or
    • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units from all post-secondary institutions, or
    • Hold an acceptable post-baccalaureate degree earned at a regionally accredited institution and:
      • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in all units attempted as an undergraduate, or
      • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5 in the last 60 semester/90 quarter units attempted from all post-secondary institutions attended.

You must also beÌýapplying to one of the following approved, second bachelor's majors:

  • Deaf Studies
  • Health Administration
  • Public Health
  • Radiologic Sciences

Your first bachelor’s degree must be completed by:

  • The end of the fall term before the fall semester in which you intend to enroll.Ìý
  • The end of the summer term before the spring semester in which you intend to enroll.

If you are not pursuing one of the above approved majors, we encourage you to consult with a program coordinator to determine whether a second bachelor's degree or a better meets your needs.

It's a good idea to get everything you'll need for your application ready. As a transfer applicant, you'll need:

  • Unofficial transcripts.ÌýYou will be required to enter all completed courses as well as those currently in progress and those you plan to take in the future.
  • Social Security number, if you have one.
  • Your citizenship status. Please note this is for CSU tuition purposes and will not affect your admission application.
  • A credit or debit card. The $70 application fee is due at the time of submission and can only be paid by credit or debit card.

Once you're ready, create an account and complete your application onÌý, the CSU's online application system.*

In Cal State Apply, you’ll be asked to complete your Extended Profile to set up your application.

  • For your degree goal, select “Second Bachelor’s Degree and Beyond.â€
  • Be sure to complete your Extended Profile correctly as the answers to these questions will control which programs are available for you to select from and the deadlines you are required to meet.

* Important: If you are returning to ¼ªÏé·» to complete a second bachelor’s degree that you have already started at ¼ªÏé·», you do not need to submit a Cal State Apply application. Visit Returning Undergraduate Students for application instructions.

After you apply, watch for an email from our office with the information you'll need to activate your ¼ªÏé·» Portal and email account. Once you've set up an account, you can check your application status. You can expect your admission decision to be available in the ¼ªÏé·» Portal as early as mid-March for fall and mid-November for spring.

Send us your official transcripts for:

  • All courses taken at other colleges and universities previously attended even if the course work was not completed, and
  • All college courses in which you are currently enrolled in order to meet one or more prerequisites for the second bachelor’s degree you are applying to (preliminary, work-in-progress transcripts), and
  • Your final transcripts for prerequisite work-in-progress as soon as you complete the courses and grades are posted.*Ìý

If you previously attended ¼ªÏé·», you do not need to send ¼ªÏé·» transcripts. Only submit transcripts for course work completed elsewhere after leaving ¼ªÏé·».

How to Submit Transcripts

  • Paper transcripts must be received in sealed, unopened envelopes. Ask your previous school(s) to send your official transcripts to:

  • If you have any California community college transcripts, please reviewÌýeTranscript CaliforniaÌýand have the transcripts sent through this system.
  • You may also hand deliver transcripts in sealed, unopened envelopes to the Office of the Registrar, Records and Registration window,ÌýStudent Services Center, Bayramian Hall lobby (BH 100) during ourÌýbusiness hours.
  • Please do not send duplicate paper and electronic transcripts.

Transcripts for Course Work

Official transcripts showing completion of your previous degree must be received electronically, postmarked or hand delivered to the Office of Admissions by the following due dates:

  • Fall Admission
    • Priority transcript deadline (including prerequisite work in progress):ÌýFeb. 15

  • Spring Admission
    • Priority transcript deadline (including prerequisite work in progress):ÌýOct. 1

All course work for your first bachelor’s degree and any for the second bachelor’s degree must be completed by:

  • The end of the fall term before the fall semester in which you intend to enroll.
