The strength of ¼ªÏé·» Alumni is fueled by volunteers who remain connected to the university by sharing their time and talents. ¼ªÏé·» counts on volunteers for everything from mentoring students to running our chapter advisory boards to hiring ¼ªÏé·» grads for internships and permanent employment. Your knowledge and experience are invaluable to us.Ìý

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Speakers/Panelists (one-time commitment)
    • Share your professional expertise and experience with students and/or ¼ªÏé·» alumni in a workshop or ¼ªÏé·» Alumni Office hosted event on or off-campus. Please include areas/topics of expertise on your volunteer form.

  • Ask A Matador (one-time or ongoing commitment)
    • Sign up to help fellow Matadors through our new Ask a Matador micro-mentoring platform. Visit to find out how you can make a difference for a Matador by offering advice and sharing your expertise.

  • Speed Mentor (one-time commitment)
    • Connect with students at a ¼ªÏé·» Alumni event. Share career advice, expertise and experience in a small group setting. ÌýExpand your professional network by meeting fellow alumni while helping students in their career journey. ÌýSpeed mentoring opportunities are available several times a semester with different student populations. ÌýChoose to participate in one or multiple events, it’s up to you.
  • Corporate Connect Host (one-time commitment)
    • Serve as the main point of contact for one of our signature student programs, Corporate Connect. ÌýThis program involves hosting up to 20 students at your work organization. ÌýThe visit usually includes an overview of the organization, alumni career stories, a site walk-through (tour) and a sponsored Q&A lunch. ÌýThe host can involve other alumni working within the organization and HR managers to participate in the logistical planning of the event.Ìý.

  • Government and Community Relations Advocates (one-time or ongoing commitment)
    • Alumni interested in supporting the Government and Community Relations office, or are passionate about priority legislative topics affecting ¼ªÏé·» (transportation, funding, elected officials, etc.) can take action by becoming a ¼ªÏé·» Advocate. Volunteers have the choice of supporting ¼ªÏé·» as a one-time volunteer at a community or board meeting, or providing long-term support on an on-going project.

  • Outreach and Recruitment Ambassadors (one-time or ongoing commitment)
    • Alumni Relations has partnered with the Student Outreach and Recruitment office to identify alumni who are interested in attending college fairs on behalf of ¼ªÏé·» in priority regions throughout California. Alumni would set up a table at the college fair and answer questions and provide application information for prospective students. Training and materials will be provided by the Outreach and Recruitment office. Volunteer should be outgoing and willing to share their ¼ªÏé·» experiences with parents and high school seniors alike.

  • Tabling/Alumni Spokesperson (one-time or ongoing commitment)
    • Throughout the year, ¼ªÏé·» hosts various events at which alumni staff and volunteers work together to share the various student and alumni services available through ¼ªÏé·» Alumni Relations. Volunteers assist in greeting fellow alumni, parents, students and/or community members and answer questions relating to their own ¼ªÏé·» experiences. Materials and brief training are always provided. Bilingual volunteers are encouraged.

      • ¼ªÏé·» Housing Move In Day (August)
      • Parents Day (October)
      • Chapter Events (year-round)

  • Thank You Callers/Outreach Volunteers (one-time or ongoing commitment)
    • On occasion, ¼ªÏé·» Alumni may need volunteers to call fellow alumni to invite them to special events or thank them for contributing in some way to the greater ¼ªÏé·» community. This volunteer opportunity does not require much time commitment. Alumni staff will set up a schedule in advance so that volunteers can sign up for a shift in alumni office.

Special interest alumni chapters provide Matador alumni with a chance to broaden their career networks, build lifelong friendships, and give back to ¼ªÏé·» through service and support. ÌýAll of our alumni chapters continually search for volunteers to fill leadership roles and committee positions. Volunteer time commitments range from a few hours making phone calls to a year-long commitment as an executive officer. ÌýPlease review the various chapter volunteer opportunities and include which chapters and roles are of interest on your volunteer form. All roles require a one-year commitment.
