StrengthUnited is honored to be an important part of making the world a safer place for all. Our work prevents sexual and domestic violence and provides healing and support for those who have survived such violence. We aim to take a traumatic event in an individual or family’s life and turn it into a point of strength.

Onsite Volunteers

StrengthUnited depends on dedicated volunteers serving as rape crisis advocates and prevention educators. Volunteers are vital to our mission, providing direct services to clients. As a community-based organization, volunteers sustain our crisis intervention, advocacy, education, and prevention programs.

Last year, our volunteers:

  • Answered 900 hotline calls
  • Accompanied 609 adults and children to forensic medical examinations

Benefits of volunteering:

  • Help people in crisis
  • Work to end violence
  • Receive ongoing training and supervision
  • Educate the public about important social issues
  • Assist a long-standing community organization
  • Receive state certification as a Sexual Assault Advocate

For information about volunteering and training: internship@strengthunited.org

Volunteer Roles:

Our flexible program allows volunteers to work at any of our four locations (City of San Fernando, Northridge, Santa Clarita and Van Nuys), from home/office, or at events:

MPH Interns: Graduate students who attend community events, create and deliver presentations, plan events, and use social media to raise awareness about violence prevention.

Sexual Assault Advocates: Answer hotline calls, provide accompaniment at forensic examinations, court hearings, and police stations, make follow-up calls, and attend monthly in-services.

Requirements

Sexual Assault Advocates must complete a 60-hour training program to become State Certified. Prevention Education Advocates help deliver community presentations to raise awareness about interpersonal violence.

StrengthUnited is currently looking for volunteers in the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. For more information about volunteering, please email internship@strengthunited.org.
